Google integrates Gmail into Docs, making it super convenient to compose and send emails – LLODO

Google is releasing a new feature for the Docs service that will let you use a word processor to compose emails, essentially integrating Gmail right in Docs. It’s part of a “smart canvas,” which aims to seamlessly combine Google’s productivity tools like Meet, Docs, and Gmail.

Similar to other Google Docs smart canvases, you can compose an email by typing the @ symbol, then selecting “Email draft” from the menu. You can then compose the email as usual, including selecting the recipient, subject, and body. When you’re ready to send, simply click the Gmail icon on the left to open the email service right in Docs.

This feature seems to be most useful for emails composed by multiple people, allowing everyone to collaborate on editing them in Google Docs, posting comments and suggestions.

Of course, you could also compose text and then copy-paste via email, but the purpose of smart canvas is to make it more seamless to switch between products like this.

Google says the email feature will be available to all Google Workspace customers, as well as anyone using the G Suite Basic and Business plans. The new feature is slowly rolling out and should be available to most users from next week.
