Beaver Creek Wildlife Education Center announces July activity slate



EAST LIVERPOOL – Beaver Creek Wildlife Education Center events for July include:

Saturday, July 8: 2 to 3p.m.: “Carrying Capacity” – Enjoy an activity in the yard behind the Beaver Creek Wildlife Education Center to explore the factors that determine the number of living things that can survive in a given area. Visitors must beat the clock in this relay race to survive. Suitable for ages 8 to 14 and family members can join in as well. Registration is required by sending contact information to beavercreekw@aol.com. This activity requires a minimum of 15 to 20 people to be most effective. An alternative activity will be held if the minimum registration is not met. Come join volunteers for some family fun.

Saturday, July 15: 1 to 4:30 p.m.: Nature Craft – Seashells. Kids and their adults can join Carolyn and other BCWEC volunteers under the pavilion to create a beautiful seashell craft. Younger kids will make a seashell wind chime. Older kids will use hot glue and make a seashell photo frame. All supplies will be provided. Register by sending contact information and names to beavercreekw@aol.com.

Sunday, July 16: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.: Stream Life Day. Join the ODNR staff for a fun, hands-on afternoon by the iron bridge in Beaver Creek State Park. This will include electro-fishing demonstrations, seining for critters in the creek, interactive activities, and a chance to meet local ODNR staff.

Sunday, July 16: 12:30 to 1 p.m.: Beaver Creek Critters. Join Beaver Creek Naturalist Evan Crawford down in Beaver Creek State Park by the iron bridge for a program on animals that live in or near Beaver Creek. After the presentation take a tour through the Wildlife Center to see the all the displays.

Sunday, July 16: 1 to 4 p.m.: Scavenger Hunt beginning at the Logan’s Loop Trail

Saturday, July 22: 1 to 5 p.m. Flint Knapping and Arrow Making;

Sunday, July 23: July Bird Walk, 8 a.m.; bring ID books and binoculars if available to Echo Dell Bridge in Beaver Creek State Park, 12021 Echo Dell Rd. Space is limited and registration is required by July 19 by emailing your contact information to Rudy at BeaverCreekBirdWalk@gmail.com or Jason at bigbirdnerd–j@yahoo.com.

Join Wildlife Center volunteers Jason Short and Rudy Kobosky for a bird walk at 8 a.m. The walk will take place rain or shine, unless there is a downpour or thunderstorms. Dress for the weather and wear sturdy shoes. Bring bird ID books and binoculars. The walk will start at the Echo Dell Bridge in Beaver Creek State Park, 12021 Echo Dell Road. Space is limited and registration is required by July 19 by emailing contact information to Rudy at BeaverCreekBirdWalk@gmail.com or Jason at bigbirdnerd–j@yahoo.com.

Sunday, July 23 at 1:30, 2:30 and 3:30 p.m. – Story Time in the Library. Join volunteer Mary Spooner for a special book reading Gracie the Public Gardens Duck by Judith Meyrick. After the reading Mary will help visitors find the ducks in the displays at the Wildlife Education Center.
