The 3rd episode of Moon Knight has brought many big changes, with the setting moving from London to Cairo with a lot of deserts, many majestic pyramids. This episode also showcased Marc Spector’s fighting prowess more, while also revealing the ancient Egyptian gods and their Earth avatars.
Compared to the first 2 episodes, the 3rd episode has a closer connection with the Marvel cinematic universe (MCU), with details, easter eggs related to some locations that appeared on the small screen before. here, and also “teases” the appearance of characters that may have a very important role in the series of projects such as Thor: Love and Thunder or Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
In the fake passport scene at the beginning of the film, Layla can be seen born on October 28, 1994 – the same birthday as the actress who plays this character, May Calamawy, only different from the year of birth (1986). In addition, this passport shows that Layla entered Egypt in 2019, meaning that she was not “discolored” by Thanos’ infinity snap, which took place between 2018 – 2023.
The opening scene also reveals that Layla’s father is an archaeologist. Since Layla is based on the character Marlene Alraune in the comics, it is likely that her father is Peter Alraune, the archaeologist who was murdered after discovering Khonshu’s secret tomb. The following segment of the film shows that it is possible that Marc Spector is involved in the death of Layla’s father.
The soundtrack in the scene where Marc Spector wakes up in a taxi is also the ending credits song of Moon Knight. This detail would probably not be interesting, if the 3rd episode did not reveal more about another personality of Moon Knight – a taxi driver “hot as ice cream” that we will learn more about shortly. down here.
As many fans predicted, there is still at least one more personality in the body of Moon Knight, besides Steven Grant and Marc Spector. It was this personality that suddenly awakened in episode 3 to rescue Marc. The Egyptian gods are also revealed in this episode, through their avatars (representatives) on Earth. In addition to Hathor, the remaining 3 gods all appeared in the Thor story chapter #239 and all became allies of the Thunder God from Asgard. Thor: Love and Thunder will be released this summer, with the main antagonist being a character dubbed the “God Slayer”. Meanwhile, the goddess Hathor in the comics takes the form of a cat, and is a relative of Wakanda’s panther, Bast. Later, Hathor-Sekhmet became an enemy of Black Panther with the name “Lion God”. Most likely this is a “teasing” detail for Marvel Studios’ Wakanda Forever blockbuster, which is expected to be released later this year.
While conversing with the gods, Khonshu mentioned a place called Overvoid. This is the residence of the Egyptian gods in the comics, similar to Asgard.
In order to find Ammit’s tomb, Marc Spector was told by Yatzil, the avatar of the god Hathor, about Senfu’s coffin. Most likely, this character is based on Pharaoh Sneferu, who built many ancient pyramids in Egypt.

To help Marc find Senfu’s coffin, Layla enlists Anton Mogart’s help, and mentions that the two met in Madripoor. In the comics, Anton Morgart is a super thief nicknamed Midnight Man, specializing in stealing jewelry and artwork, and is also a sworn enemy of the Moon Knight. After the battle between Marc, Layla and Morgart ended, the clock can be seen at 12 o’clock at night (Midnight) – an easter egg related to the name Midnight Man of this character.
Bek (played by Loic Mabanza) is Mogart’s assistant. The character was inspired by Kareesh-Bek, a minor villain in Moon Knight chapter #18 (1982).
As stated above, it is very likely that Marc was involved in Layla’s father’s death. In the original, Marc was the one who witnessed the moment Peter Alraune was murdered in the crypt. This is also one of the great reasons why he accepted the power of Khonshu and became the Moon Knight.
Moon Knight’s “comic-standard” cape first aired in the most thrilling action scene of the 3rd episode, with the shape of a crescent moon, related to this superhero’s power.
Finally, episode 3 of Moon Knight is considered a tribute that Marvel Studios gives Gaspard Ulliel, who plays Anton Mogart. The actor unfortunately passed away in January 2022 after a skiing accident in the French Alps.
