After nearly 30 years of cooperation and not long after the announcement of the new football game of 2022, EA Sports and FIFA have officially parted. In a new blog post, Electronic Arts announced the sad news and shared about the future of the long-standing football game series.
When the contract expires in 2023, EA will no longer be able to use the “FIFA” in the game name, they will change the title of the long-standing football game series to “EA Sports FC”. Although the FIFA name is no longer used for advertising purposes, EA still maintains relationships with many famous teams and players.
Cam Weber, CEO of EA Sports stated:Everything you loved will still be part of EA Sports FC – still the same great experience, all the game modes, leagues, tours, clubs and players will remain.“.
In addition to possibly losing the ability to use the term “World Cup” in game content development, it is unclear what rights EA will lose when it stops cooperating with FIFA. But also in the blog post, director Weber is quick to reassure players.
“Our unique portfolio of copyrights, which includes more than 19,000 players, 700+ teams, more than 100 stadiums and 30 leagues, will allow us to continue investing for many more decades, particularly in EA Sports FC,” wrote Mr Weber. “Those relationships include partnerships with the Premier League, LaLiga, Bundesliga, Serie A, MLS and many more.“.
It seems that the FIFA 23 version will retain the features and play mechanics familiar to the community, including the World Cup, major tournaments, famous clubs … Mr. Weber said that players will have to wait. until the summer of 2023 to know what EA Sports FC will contain.
