Apple once again leads in the market share of best-selling smartphones globally. New data from Counterpoint shows that the iPhone accounted for seven of the top 10 best-selling smartphones in 2021. Apple, Samsung, and Xiaomi were the only brands that broke into the top 10. Xiaomi took two places and Samsung took one.
According to Counterpoint, there were more than 4,200 active smartphone models in the global market last year.
The first 5 positions of the list belong to Apple. iPhone 12 is the best-selling phone model, accounting for 2.9% of the global market share. Other smartphones in the top 5 are iPhone 12 Pro Max, iPhone 13, iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 11. The other two Apple smartphones on the list are iPhone SE 2020 and iPhone 13 Pro Max ranked at eight and nine.
The fact that iPhone 13 takes third place is very impressive because it was only launched in September 2021. Also according to Counterpoint, iPhone 13 was the best-selling smartphone in Q4/2021, followed by iPhone 13 Pro Max and iPhone 13 Pro.
Samsung and Xiaomi are the other two brands making the top 10 list. Galaxy A12 takes sixth place, Xiaomi Redmi 9A in seventh place while Redmi 9 comes in tenth place.
These 10 best-selling phones account for a total of 19% of global sales in 2021.
It’s no surprise that Apple dominates the global list for 2021. Previous data from Counterpoint also shows that despite supply chain issues, Apple dominated the US smartphone market last year. Apple is also achieving great success in the Chinese market as the leading phone company in Q4/2021.
