At the new Peek performance event held at dawn on March 9, Apple introduced a completely new Mac called the Mac Studio. This is the replacement Mac model for the previous high-end Mac mini. Possessing a new “big lean” design and terrible hardware, it is not difficult to understand when the starting price of Mac Studio is relatively high, from 1999 USD for the M1 Max option and 3999 USD for the M1 Ultra option.
However, that’s not all, the $3999 price tag for the M1 Ultra option is just the price for the standard version with 64GB of RAM (Unified Memory) and 1TB of SSD storage. Apple also offers more memory options, up to 128GB RAM and 8TB SSD, and if you choose this “max option”, users will need to spend a total of 8000 USD, which is another 4000 USD to memory upgrade.
For comparison, the Intel Mac Pro launched in 2019 starts at just $5999 for the most standard version. Of course, the $8000 price of the “max option” Mac Studio is still nothing compared to the $50,000 price of the “max option” Mac Pro.
With Mac Studio and Studio Display, Apple also introduced the Magic Keyboard, Magic Mouse and Magic Trackpad black versions, but sold separately, not with Mac Studio.
Mac Studio and Studio Display will be available from March 18.
