According to the latest report from market research company Canalys, the smartphone market in Vietnam in the first quarter of 2022 has seen a significant change in the ranking positions of brands.
Specifically, in the list of the top 5 largest smartphone manufacturers in Vietnam, Samsung is still the “champion” with 34% market share, a decrease of 10% compared to last year. With a 34% market share, Samsung is proving its position in the S-shaped country. Among Samsung’s most popular models, the Galaxy A and Galaxy M series are the most popular among users: the Galaxy A series and the Galaxy M series. The A focuses on design, camera, and experience while the M series focuses on performance and battery life.
Besides, Samsung’s Galaxy S series is also the most popular Android flagship series by Vietnamese users. Sales of the S series in the first quarter of 2022 were quite positive.
Surprise with 2nd place
Ranked at 2nd place in the ranking is a rather unexpected name: Xiaomi. In the first quarter of last year, Xiaomi was still in 3rd place with 11% market share, but after only one year, Xiaomi has surpassed OPPO to rise to 2nd position with 22% market share, growing to 67% over last year. Among the top 5 major brands in Vietnam, Xiaomi is currently the manufacturer with the highest growth rate.
Explaining this growth, Xiaomi said that starting in 2022, the company introduced to Vietnamese users the Redmi Note 11 series product line with many variants ranging from the low-cost to mid-range segment. Redmi Note 11 series inherits the advantages of previous Redmi Note series, giving users a device with high value for money compared to the money that users spend.
Following the mid-range Redmi Note 11 series, Xiaomi introduces the flagship duo Xiaomi 12 and Xiaomi 12 Pro, strongly upgrading cameras, performance and experience. Along with that, AIoT product lines are constantly being expanded with many choices such as headsets, smart watches, vacuum cleaners…
OPPO “falls” in 3rd place, Apple is in the top 5
Xiaomi’s strong growth made OPPO “fall” to third place with 17% market share, a decrease of 14% compared to the previous year. This is predictable because in the early period of 2022, OPPO’s main product line, the A-series series, has not yet added any new members, users of this segment tend to switch to smartphones. Samsung and Xiaomi.
The appearance of the Reno7 series with a high price tag is unlikely to help OPPO regain its lost market share. Meanwhile, in the high-end segment, OPPO still has no place to compete with Apple and Samsung.
In addition, in the ranking of 5 major brands in Vietnam, Apple appears in 4th place with 10% market share and 18% growth year-on-year, followed by vivo with 8% and growth minus.
The beginning of the year witnessed a large number of users shopping for new technology products, especially the time near Tet as well as after Tet. Meanwhile, the mid-year period will be a time when the smartphone market becomes more gloomy because manufacturers often do not introduce many new products during this period.
Also according to Canalys, global smartphone sales in the first quarter of 2022 were 11% lower than in the same period last year, the main reason coming from the global economic situation becoming gloomy due to the negative impact of the epidemic. disease COVID-19.
