The announcement also adds that all orders will still be fully delivered through November 19, although delivery times may be delayed. And it’s possible that Sony didn’t anticipate larger impacts than that.

Sony’s unusual decision to stop taking orders may have been due to a delay in component stockpiling. Sony cannot predict when the situation will end, but the company said it will adjust supply and increase the rate of components stockpiling.

An analyst at a Japanese brokerage firm said: “Not only semiconductors, power ICs, audio codecs, but many other components are showing signs of shortage.”

Sony Japan did not share its plan to resume production of these products, but only said that they will consider production after observing the status of component supply.

Although it has been around for a while, the Sony a7 II, a6400 and a6100 series cameras are still appreciated for their advanced technology and affordable prices.

Camera retailers also revealed that the supply of Canon and Nikon cameras is in short supply and significantly affects their sales. Nikon representative said: “In addition to the shortage of semiconductors, the increasing Covid-19 infections in Southeast Asia also contribute to the decrease in the supply of components.”

Many retailers have had to apologize and call customers. They can currently only ask customers to place an order and wait for the latest deliveries. Many retailers expressed concern when the year-end shopping season is approaching, but they do not have enough goods to sell.

In Japan, some online stores reported a shortage of a wide range of cameras. Many products even note that it takes a month to deliver.
