Super Mario Bros Wonder has been announced as the next Super Mario Bros game for Nintendo Switch.
The newest entry in the side-scrolling platformer side of the franchise, the first since 2013’s New Super Luigi U, lets up to four players pick from six playable characters to jump their way through some tricky levels.
This instalment’s wrinkle is a power-up that transforms Mario and pals into elephants, while other pick-ups can bring warp pipes to life, and spawn hordes of enemies. We’re sure Nintendo has even more twists up its sleeve for the full game.

It was not the only Mario-related title announced at the most recent Nintendo Direct. Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars is getting a Switch remake/remaster called Super Mario RPG.
The Super Nintendo classic is getting a visual overhaul, although the gameplay looks like it’s going to stay very faithful to the original, at least based on the reveal trailer.
There’s also WarioWare: Move It!, a new collection of microgames that will give you a handful of seconds to figure out what you need to do in a wacky scenario and do it. Unlike 2021’s Get It Together!, which used regular buttons, this will involve players waving the Joy-cons around in all sorts of weird ways.

If it sounds like a sequel to WarioWare: Smooth Moves on the Wii, that’s because it actually is, as confirmed by the Japanese title for the game.
Finally, there’s a Switch port of 3DS game Luigi’s Mansion 2 (or Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon for US gamers) and a long-overdue second solo game for Princess Peach, her first since 2006.
Little is known about the latter game, including its title, but it will be another side-scroller.
