More than a year after the launch of the first RTX 3000 series GPUs, recently at CES 2022, NVIDIA announced the RTX 3090 Ti, its most advanced GPU successor to the RTX 3090.
NVIDIA has not announced all the specifications of the RTX 3090 Ti yet. Initial images show that it will have a “lean” design like its predecessor RTX 3090 and occupy 3 PCI-e slots. Both the RTX 3090 Ti and RTX 3090 have 24GB GDDR6X GDDR6X VRAM, but the RTX 3090 Ti achieves 21Gbps memory bandwidth, which is higher than the RTX 3090’s 19.5Gbps.
In terms of GPU performance, NVIDIA says the RTX 3090 Ti reaches 40 TFLOPS, about 11% higher than the RTX 3090’s 36 TFLOPS. In addition, the RTX 3090 Ti also reaches 78 TFLOPS for ray-tracing and 320 TFLOPS for AI applications. The GPU clock level has not been revealed, but it seems that the RTX 3090 Ti will be about 10% faster than the RTX 3090.
It is not clear how this performance boost will affect the power consumption of the RTX 3090 Ti. Some rumors say that this “huge” GPU from NVDIA will have a TDP of 450W and require a 1000W power supply. If that’s true, the RTX 3090 Ti has a 100W higher TDP than the RTX 3090, and the RTX 3090 also only requires a 750W power supply.
NVIDIA has not yet announced the price of the RTX 3090 Ti. However, with the RTX 3090 having a list price of 1499 USD, it is very likely that the RTX 3090 Ti will hit the 2000 USD threshold.
