A recent report on the mobile market (State of Mobile 2022) of Data.ai said that in recent years, consumers have become more familiar with shopping and investing on mobile phones.
Accordingly, in 2021, on average, each user spends about 4.8 hours a day on mobile applications. In addition, the report data shows that, in 2021, the world has spent about 170 billion USD on mobile applications and there are more than 430 thousand app downloads per minute.

Regarding the popularity of social networking applications, the report said that in 2021, TikTok is the leading application in terms of user engagement among social networking applications globally. It is also one of the five most downloaded apps in all Southeast Asian markets, excluding Hong Kong (China).
In Vietnam, the report has shown the top 5 most downloaded applications by Vietnamese people, respectively Facebook, Tik Tok, Facebook Messenger, Zalo and Instagram.
Besides, live-streaming apps are also driving consumer spending on social media platforms. Specifically, the report said that global user spending on favorite content creators in 2021 increased by 6.5 times compared to 2018.
“Live-streaming platforms are changing the game, providing creators with direct shopping opportunities and income,” the report said.
In Viet Nam, Tik Tok is the application that Vietnamese users spend the most money on the live streaming content they love; followed by Bingo Live and Facebook.
In the financial sector, the report says, simplicity and flexibility in financial transactions seem to be the two formulas for the success of financial applications. Notably, Binance became one of the top five most downloaded financial apps in Singapore, Thailand, Philippines, Vietnam, Hong Kong (China) and Taiwan (China).
“Higher downloads mean that Binance will also see an increase in monthly active users across these markets in the coming months,” the report predicts.
The report notes that time spent on shopping apps has increased by 18% year over year globally. By market, Indonesia and Singapore had the highest growth in online shopping in Southeast Asia, with online shopping growth of 46% and 45% year-on-year, respectively.
