Cheap to buy a 512GB micro SD card for only 120k and the end… – Webuy
The whole world is in a state of shortage of electronic components, products such as graphics cards, CPU chips to all kinds of memory are therefore priced at “galloping”. Yet in one of my e-commerce sites, I came across a store that sells high-capacity micro SD memory cards at a “as-for” cheap price, the most impressive of which is the Xiaomi card. 512GB but only 120,000 VND!
This price is only 1/10 cheaper than other products on the market, when 512GB micro SD cards from Samsung, Lexar or Sandisk all range from 1.4 to 1.6 million VND, some high-speed ones even exceed the threshold of 2. million dong. With such a delicious “deal”, why don’t we buy one to try?
After about a week, the product also arrived, in addition to the memory card, we also received a “shirt” to convert to a large SD card used for cameras, camcorders and USB card readers, too good!
But after picking up the memory card, I realized something was a bit “wrong”: why is the brand name printed on the card called Xiao (how) mi rather than Xiaomi written immediately?
At this point, I also thought to myself that maybe this is the shipment that Xiaomi printed with an error, so it was sold so cheaply. Well, let’s plug the card into the computer to record data.
When I plugged the card into the machine, I saw a memory capacity of 500GB. Usually, the memory cards used in reality are not full of capacity, which is understandable, the 128GB USB I just bought has only a real capacity of 117GB.
I started recording about 10 music albums with a total capacity of 10GB to the card, then I found the write speed was very slow, only about 13.7MB/s. After waiting nearly 15 minutes to finish writing data to the card, I feel a bit “tired” with this speed!
To transfer these music albums to the tablet, I used a USB Type-C card reader to insert a memory card into the device. And at this moment, I suddenly felt “confusing” because the memory card capacity displayed on the tablet was only 1.83GB, much smaller than when attached to the computer!
Every time I play the songs on the card, the device shows the file name as “fd://101” rather than the song name, and after playing for a few seconds, it “turns off” and shows an error message. .
After the previous “doubts”, I now know for sure that I have been cheated. This is essentially a micro SD card with a real capacity of only 2GB, with a very low read and write speed and an outer shell of 512GB to trick customers into “credibility”.
A question arises: why when plugged into the computer the card still shows up to 500GB capacity, and can download up to 10GB of music? Looking at the structure of a micro SD card, we have copper rods to communicate with the device, memory chip and another component is the controller (Controller).
The controller is responsible for navigating data on the memory chip and especially storing the memory card’s information including manufacturer and capacity. Fraudsters can use a low-quality card, then with special tools can edit the information on the controller to “turn” it into a high-capacity card.
Data is more important than memory cards, choose to buy at reputable locations
There is a saying that reminds me of the data storage problem: “User’s data is more important than much of its contents”Your documents, photos and videos cost more than any micro SD card, SSD or HDD.
So when buying storage products, don’t be cheap but buy bad quality products that cause data loss. Now what you lose is more than what you save!
