The virtual assistant on smart speaker devices will always be ready to listen and obey the owner’s commands when activated with a few simple phrases. However, when not in use, does it really lie dormant on the table or in the corner of the room, or is it always listening and recording everything around? That is the topic that director Steven Soderbergh has decided to exploit in the movie KIMI, a sci-fi, sensational work that will air on HBO Max in early February.
[Vietsub] Trailer for the sci-fi thriller, KIMI, directed by Steven Soderbergh.
The trailer above shows that KIMI revolves around the “her” virtual assistant of the same name (it seems to be based on Amazon’s Alexa) with many convenient features such as helping the owner to order goods, search for information on the Internet or place orders. Schedule an appointment with a therapist. KIMI is also able to record every sound (and image?) around him, thereby turning the company that produced it into a powerful force in this fantasy world.
Besides KIMI, our main character is a pretty special interpreter, specializing in listening and processing the recordings that KIMI recorded. However, during one shift, she discovered a suspicious recording and seemed to be related to a serious murder. She immediately contacted the company that produced KIMI to seek help but was refused. That forced her to resort to “underground” relationships to find the victim’s whereabouts in the scary recording.
However, perhaps the heroine herself could not have imagined that this reluctant mission had put her in an extremely dangerous situation. That danger does not only come from the killer, but also lies in the company that created KIMI, when they find every way to keep a secret about the fact that their virtual assistant can infiltrate the private lives of customers. How deep is the row? From there, she realized that the virtual assistant KIMI is actually always listening and recording everything around, whether it is activated to work or not.
The person chosen to send gold for the main role of this film is Zoë Kravitz, an actress who has participated in many famous projects such as X-Men: First Class, Mad Max: Fury Road, Fantastic Beasts, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, and soon The Batman as Selina Kyle/Catwoman. In addition, the film also stars Byron Bowers, Jaime Camil, Erika Christensen, Derek DelGaudio, Robin Givens, Charles Halford, Devin Retray, Jacob Vargas and Rita Wilson.
KIMI is also the third work directed by Soderbergh to produce for HBO Max after signing a long-term contract with the platform. The movie will officially air on February 10 here.
